Another strong offering from The Walking Dead’s sophomore effort. I’ve really been so pleased with the show this season. Although many criticize the farm aspect of it all, I though it provided a nice feeling of refuge away from the escalating turmoil that is bound to submerge our characters soon enough. After last week’s stunning episode, this hour did a great job of showing just how “broken” our group of survivors is. It’s made all the more disheartening concerning a huge threat in the form of Randall’s creepy gang-rapey friends looming on the horizon.

It’s been a while since a show actually made me think and I’m quite surprised that The Walking Dead of all things has accomplished that.

Moreover, Carl’s descent into psycho kid is fascinating to watch as I loved his little face-off with the Walker in the swamp who coincidentally mauled Dayle (talk about a guilt trip).

Speaking of Dale’s death, well, that was unexpected wasn’t it? The assault was brutal, horrifying, and ended with the fantastic touch of Darryl pulling the trigger. I think it’s something the show really needed because we’d gotten far too comfortable with our cast of characters and the writing staff hadn’t really shown us that they had the guts to kill off major characters. Here’s hoping they continue to weed out the cast as there’s still a lot of dead weight *cough*Carol, T-Dog*cough.

In the end, this was another strong episode that did a great job of ratcheting up the tension for what it sure to be an explosive second half.
