Hensel & Gretel: Witch Hunters
Boudius’ Take:
Okay first, please give me a minute while I go throw up….1 minute later…thank u. Contrary to popular belief (I am taking liberty with the use of the word popular here) the reason for my bout of nausea was not caused by what may be perceived as the horrid mess that is this movie, but by the sheer disaster that is the film editing in this trailer. Whose bright idea was it to do these flashes from one shot to the other? Is that what we are supposed to expect the action scenes in this movie to look like? Shouldn’t there be a warning that the trailer would cause epileptic seizures? Why was this made? Whose cousin banged whose mom for this to get made this badly? As far as the movie, God I think its unintentional comedy is fairly obvious. The ease with which I am able to fill the “reminds me of” tab these days makes me sad. Twice already on this post I knew exactly what movie inspired the trailer we saw (if you haven’t figured it out yet, in this case it’s Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter). Someone will come out in one week and defend this movie as an oasis of creativity in a desert of remakes and sequels. Us ladies and gentelman, this is what can pass as creative in 2012. Thank God for low budget indies or else I would have had to commit suicide ages ago.
Remind me of: …..duh.
Excitement meter: nope sorry.

Nad’s Take:
I guess I’m going to get burned at the stake for saying this (and yes I just realized WITCHES used to be burned at the stake so this was not a purposeful pun) but I found this concept sort of amusing. I’m sure the film will be utter trash but perhaps it could be amusing trash nonetheless. We all have our guilty pleasures of the year and I think this could prove to be one of mine! Or, it could just be atrocious beyond comprehension. I guess we’ll find out.
Remind me: double duh.
Excitement meter: Meh.

The Company You Keep
Boudius’ Take:
This Shia LabBeuf character puzzles me. I really want to know what to make of him and finally resolve once and for all whether I hate him or whether he’s the next Dicaprio. As far as this movie goes, it looks like its another stellar Shia performance. Pitting him against Robert Redford is also another reason to look forward to the movie. Now on to the more important stuff, discover whether this weather group the mention actually ever existed (yes I just said wether and weather in the same sentence. Don’t judge me Nad)
Reminds me of: State of Play (which you discovered).
Excitement meter: watch.

Nad’s Take:
Haha yes go do some research. I didn’t find the trailer interesting enough to do that. It looks well made that’s for sure, but the subject material didn’t really intrigue me. However, I do love Susan Surandon and seeing her as an ex-terrorist could prove quite compelling. If you dragged me to it I woulnd’t say no, but I’m not exactly going to rush out to watch this either.
Reminds me of: Munich?
Excitement meter: meh.

The To-Do List
Boudius’ Take:
Hmmmm. I think I like this twist on the whole pixie girl genre. I am a big fan of dark humoured pretty girls and Aubrey plaza nails it here. This trailer doesn’t do much to get me hyped about the movie but it definitely caught my interest. Ever since Bridesmaids, Hollywood has decided that now is the time for crude female humor. From what I see here, that’s pretty much all the film makers had in mind when doing this. There is a bunch of funny yet low hanging jokes in this trailer which say nothing about the quality of the story.  This could go either one of very opposing ways. Lets hope its at least bearable. They will get my dollar but until I see more they are not getting my fully fledged support.
Reminds me of: Bridesmaids.
Excitement meter: watch.

Nad’s Take:
Hahah thanks for catching this one, the trailer was quite amusing. I’ve never seen this girl before but she definitely has an inherent likeability and charm to her. And I loved how the trailer was constructed with her talking to the audience and poking fun at the usual Valentine’s Day cliches when it comes to Hollywood. Ditto on the Bridesmaids thing and crude female humor. I didn’t like that movie by the way (must have been in the minority) but this looks quite funny. Will definitely give it a shot.
Reminds me of: Bridesmaids.
Excitement meter: watch.

The Oranges
Nad’s Take:
That final R-rated joke pretty much sealed the movie for me. Hilarious. A girl falling in love with her parent’s best friend in an interesting enough concept for a family film / romantic comedy and the cast is filled with enough talented actors to make me wanna give this a shot. Also, I’ve always had a crush on Leighton Meester and her hitting it off with Hugh Laurie of all people is so very creepy yet strangely interesting. I have a feeling this could turn out to be pretty darn enjoyable. Boudz?
Reminds me of: The Family Stone.
Excitement meter: Watch.

Boudius’ Take:
Well for starters I haven’t always had a crush on Leighton Meester but I sure as hell do now. I love this return to weak sarcastic Hugh Laurie as opposed to bully sarcastic Hugh Laurie from House. Is it a creepy movie? By all means it is. Is it hilarious? By all means, it also is. Nothing could have marketed this movie better than this trailer (and that final joke also sealed it for me Nads). I just hope they didn’t use up all the good stuff in the trailer.
Reminds me of: Election.
Excitement meter: Watch.

Cloud Atlas
Nad’s Take:
That was the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen in my life. I seriously can’t tell you what that movie is about and I just watched a 2-minute trailer. So many worlds, so many characters, so many stars! I have a feeling it’s going to be a mess of film instead of the epic the Wachoswki brothers will probably sell it is. I lost faith in them after they ruined The Matrix with an atrocious trilogy. I will watch this out of curiosity though. God that was bizarre!
Reminds me of: The Lord Of The Rings meets The Matrix meets Babel?
Excitement meter: Watch.

Boudius’ Take:
If you thought this was bizarre you should see the 7 minute fund raising weird trailer. Watched it? Ok if you thought that was bizarre, know that there’s a reason they are the Wachowski and not the Wachowski brothers anymore. Larry, who was a married man when The Matrix came out, is Lana now. Yep. She’s a woman. Pink braids and talks of surgically constructed vaginas and all (refer to the New York times article). As if the Wachowskis weren’t interesting enough. I know the matrix is probably the most polarizing movie ever after The Tree of Life…but there’s no arguing it was interesting. Similarly, there can be no arguing that cloud atlas is interesting as hell. I’m going to be watching it at least three times. Once to marvel at the performance of the ever charming and ever changing Tom Hanks.. this time with the changes all happening in one epic movie. The second time to actually understand it. The third to enjoy it.
Reminds me of: I DON’T KNOW! Which is actually a good thing.
Excitement meter: Pumped.
