Fast Food Round-Up With Yaz

Burger King

Yaz’s Take: If I were to binge, I’d rather feast on real meat. And by real meat, I don’t mean the over-sized, pale, sad-looking, dry piece of patty they offer at Burger King. Their buns aren’t that great either, which you realize when your bread slides off while splitting into pieces half way through your meal. Their chicken is “all right”, but “all right” is just not enough when you want to overindulge in junky comfort food. Their chicken tenders in specific are a disappointment. Other than being the smallest chicken tenders in the market, they’re overly chewy and mediocre in flavor. The fries however, are definitely worth the praise: crispy crunchy on the outside, without losing the soft potato taste you want melting in your mouth. Besides the french fries, I’m obviously not a fan of Burger King!

Nad’s Take: I strongly disagree Yaz. The fries we agree on; they’re beyond spectacular and just perfect in every way. But the burgers I freakin’ adore! Mostly I’m talking about the magnificent creation known as the Whopper. It’s a seriously phenomenal creation and has provided me with the ultimate comfort food over the years. A pity you don’t feel the same way. Perhaps we need to binge together soon to properly convince you!

McDonalds

Nad’s Take: There’s nothing quite like the Big Mac in my opinion. Sure it’s not really “big”, but its scrumptious secret sauce more than makes up for its size. I literally can not guess what in the world is in that delightful blend but it just makes the burger. The fries however, pale in comparison to Burger King‘s. They’re perfectly serviceable, but nowhere near as tasty. I have heard good things about the Quarter Pounder though. Yaz?

Yaz’s Rating: Everyone loves the Big Mac at McDonalds Nad. Everyone except for me that is. I’m just not mad about it. I do agree though that it’s one of their signature burgers as I know a few people who order the Big Mac sauce on the side to dip their fries in. But to me, the need to tweak and dip your fries in a sauce to make them yummier only emphasizes the fact that those fries have failed to meet your cravings. Burger King definitely wins the Fries-War in this case! Another one of McDonalds signature burgers is actually their mini burger. It’s more of a snack than a meal, yet in my opinion that’s what makes it one of their top selling products. Pickles, ketchup, a thin piece of meat and a soft bun, it’s devoured within a few minutes, or a few seconds in my case (I’m a fast eater). The Quarter Pounder tastes exactly like the mini burger, except it’s bigger in size! If it were up to me, I’d get a Quarter Pounder from McDonalds and fries from Burger King! What if they merge their delivery services?

Hardees

Nad’s Take: The Hardees menu is nothing special but one combo in particular has proven to be a weekly favorite of mine that I can not seem to praise enough. It’s the beyond-epic Mushroom & Swiss burger with curly fries and the joint’s signature Big Cookie. The Mushroom and Swiss is by far the single most delicious in Leb and I have yet to taste one that comes close (except maybe Classic Burger Joint but it still falls short). The curly fries taste like little slices of heaven carved by the angels themselves, and of course the cookie is an incredible treat that perfectly bookends this binge fest. Suffice to say, this is one combo that always keeps me coming back. Outstanding.

Yaz’s Take: Actually Nad, you’ve gotten so used to ordering your Mushroom & Swiss, you forgot all about the rest of their menu! Talking about their menu, there’s a burger called “Quarter Pound”, it’s the long lost sister of McDonalds‘ “Quarter Pounder”. The Hardees team must have spent years figuring out new burgers for their menu! The difference between the burgers, besides the McDonalds one having more “er” to it, is that it tastes fresher than the Hardees one. Nevertheless, I must agree that the Hardees Mushroom & Swiss Burger is definitely worth talking about. They’re also known for their lip-smacking chicken burgers, their “Spicy Santa Fe” and “Chicken Fillet” both meeting expectations. As for their curly fries, they’re yummy, but the way you described them, it’s like you wish it could rain Hardees curly fries one day! I suggest a cup of cheddar with the curly fries, yet a lot of people don’t enjoy that cheddar cause I do agree that it tastes quite artificial. Still, sometimes the only activity that can comfort you on a bad day is pigging out, and Hardees definitely does it for me when I do!
