Introducing the first installment of Nad’s TV Year In Review for 2012.
Favorite Returning Drama
Scandal was on fire this season. Practically every episode was thought-provoking, compelling and utterly jaw-dropping. This was seriously brilliant television that took me by surprise week-in/week-out.
Favorite New Drama
Although Arrow has yet to unlock its full potential, it’s the freshman drama series that I’ve most enjoyed watching this year. There’s a lot of potential in this one, and I’m hopeful it will all be unlocked by the time the season finale comes along.
Favorite Returning Comedy
Underrated but unwaveringly hilarious, Suburgatory is an outstanding comedy with real heart to boot. The cast is top-notch and the cartoony world perfectly realized. Here’s hoping it goes on for many seasons to come.
Favorite New Comedy
AND
I didn’t expect to like The Mindy Project but it’s undoubtedly hilarious. Mindy Kaling has a special brand of humor that’s quite rare on television. The show is just beyond charming.
Veep‘s first season was also a surprise highlight. Dreyfus is as magnificent as she was on Seinfeld, and plays the Vice President of the United States with incredible nuance and fitting awkwardness. Superb little comedy here people.
Worst Returning Drama
OR
I can’t pick because both The Vampire Diaries and Revenge were highly disappointing this year. I am seriously praying they return to form once the hiatus is over because they’re both capable of greatness when they’re firing on all cylinders.
Worst New Drama
I so wanted to love 666 Park Avenue but it’s been misfire after misfire. It just goes to prove you really can’t judge a show by its spooky premise or its incredible cast. A pity.
Worst Returning Comedy
I don’t know why I’m still watching 2 Broke Girls but I guess I need something brainless when I want to fall asleep. Still, it’s the worst thing ever made.
Worst New Comedy
I didn’t hate Partners, but it should have been funnier particularly since it had Sophia Bush who surprised me with her excellent comedic timing and inherent charm. Here’s hoping she finds another show soon.
Favorite Character of the Year
Played to perfection by the talented Maggie Q, Nikita is a kickass, unapologetic protagonist. I wish more TV leads were this no-holds barred and awesome and I do hope Nikita goes on for a long time to come.
Worst Character of the Year
Whiny, annoying and just plain pathetic, I don’t think I’ve ever hated a character more than I hate Declan Porter from Revenge. He should have been killed off in the pilot.
Best Song Use Of The Year
Never Let Me Go by Florence + The Machine
(The Vampire Diaries 3×19 – Heart Of Darkness)
My favorite song of the year was perfectly utilized as Elena and Damon finally shared an epic kiss in a dingy motel room. A mesmerizing sequence and one of the most memorable TV moments of 2012.
Best Episode Of The Year
Scandal 2×08 – Happy Birthday Mr. President
This episode further cemented just how mindblowing Scandal has become this year. A fantastic achievement on every level. This is one show everybody should be watching.
Worst Episode Of The Year
Grey’s Anatomy 9×08 – Love Turns You Upside Down
Too much focus on interns instead of the characters that actually matter. Probably the worst episode Grey’s Anatomy has ever produced.
Fantastic list, Nadim!
I agree with you on most things, but we can still agree to disagree onThe Mindy Project.

Haha I guess sitcoms are a whole different boat. I seriously love it Chris 🙂
Hhaha Wadih it's nice to read your own awards (of course mine matter more)
I do really need to start Breaking Bad. And you're so right about Nick Saverese. He just might be worse than Jack Porter! How did I forget about that horrible excuse of a character?
And please stop with the Revolution hate. There are MUCH worse shows on television! Revolution at least has potential which will definitely be unlocked at some point this year!
