The Vampire Diaries 4×12 – A View To A Kill

I don’t want to jump the gun here but I think The Vampire Diaries just turned great again.

I wasn’t really loving this episode until the final ten minutes. It was more of the same tedious plotting until Jeremy stabbed Kol which was a sorely needed development. And Damon punching Stefan just as Jeremy’s mark revealed itself? Let’s just say there was a lot of forward momentum that had been a long time coming. TVD used to be quite adept at providing its audience with a slew of awesome moments in every episode but it hasn’t been up to par lately. Hopefully this hour was a sign of things to come.

I was also pleasantly surprised by Rebekah who was more sympathetic than she’s been in a long, long time. Her budding bond with Stefan has been intriguing to watch, and I quite liked the fact that she wants the cure to turn human herself. Obviously the whole gang is setting themselves up for a major letdown but it’s exciting to see them all chase after one goal.

And finally Bonnie unlocked her inner badass. I still have hope that she’ll end up being the season’s big bad after Silas (if he turns out to be anticlimactic like Klaus) so this was a step in the right direction for sure. The return of her mother was pretty lame, as I’d forgotten she existed let alone as a vampire.

Bits & Bites

– Bonnie nagging about her dad cancelling the dance was pretty lame in the midst of everything going on. I wish this show would stop trying to be such a teen-soap sometimes.

– Kol sure destroyed the Gilbert household. Loved all the carnage he caused (in particular, staking Elena into the wall).

– Bonnie was superb, trapping Klaus in Elena’s living room. Guess she still has some uses.

Vampy Zingers

Damon: If you’re gonna be bad, be bad with purpose.

Damon: It’s one of his trademarks, like his brooding and his hair.

Klaus: I don’t understand what’s taking so long. How hard is it to steal a dagger?
Stefan: From a vampire who’s been stabbed as many times as your sister? I’d say difficult.

Conclusion
A step in the right direction after a disappointing stretch.

  1. Very pleasantly surprised with Rebekah's change, but not sure I trust it… I expected her to be more pissed off about them killing Kohl so, watch out!

Definitely a step in the right direction! And since Klaus can only stay locked up 3-4 days, the next episode or two should be full of goodies plot-wise! So my guess? Second half of the season is the gang vs Silas

  2. You are a much nicer person than I! I'm not sure I'm in a forgiving mood yet, but at least I wasn't tempted to stop watching all together this week. Here's hoping they continue with the better stories!
