Does anyone else kinda wish The Vampire Diaries was just about Damon, Elena and Rebekah living the life (and feeding free) in New York? Seriously that show would be epic.
While I didn’t love this episode, it provided a nice breather before the insanity that is surely about to befall Mystic Falls. I have a huge issue with Bonnie however; the character has been completely robbed of her free will and has been rendered nothing more than a useless plot device. She’s become frustrating to watch and annoying on practically every level. The writers obviously don’t know what to do with her and now that she has amnesia, well it doesn’t look like things are going to improve.
Caroline fared a bit better as the girl finally got something to do. I pretty much loved her making the decision to sacrifice TWELVE witches in exchange for her best friend. It’s a selfishly compelling development and I can’t wait to see the ramifications of the choice.
As for the Big Apple, I continue to love humanity-free Elena. Not only does Nina Dobrev suddenly look drop dead gorgeous, she’s obviously relishing playing an Elena who doesn’t nag and moan 24/7. Her dynamic with Rebekah was highly amusing, and the prospects of the two on a road-trip next week in their bid to find Katherine is extremely exciting.
And look at that, Lexie’s back! I never loved the character but she was intriguing here as we jumped back to the 70s where she once tried to help Damon regain his humanity. The latter naturally screwed her over (literally) and left her stranded on a roof to get barbecued. Is it just me or was 1970’s Damon extremely reminiscent of Spike from Buffy? It definitely looks like he provided some inspiration for Julie Plec.
Bits & Bites
– Klaus continues to grate on my nerves. What else is new. Can he just hop on off to his spinoff already?
– I still can’t stand the actor who plays Professor Shane. I refuse to look up his name because he’s truly terrible.
– Seriously, it must be the hair. Nina looks amazing.
– Pretty great ending with Silas stabbing Klaus.
Damon: You wanted to feed? I brought you to a city-sized buffet.
Stefan: Where is she now?
Damon: Out exploring. Maybe she’s eating a hot dog…vendor.
Damon: (about Lexie) She had a Mother Theresa complex.
Klaus: Not to nitpick but we villains usually use our minions to pick up our dry cleaning and that sort of thing.
Elena: I’m not stupid.
Rebekah: Let’s not say things we don’t mean.
An interesting little episode with enough positives to make the outing worthwhile.
