Well, that was terrible.
Sadly, not even Annalise saved this episode from flunking out because there really wasn’t a single moment from He Deserved To Die that was worth watching. And while the show still gets undeserving hype and amazing ratings, the quality is definitely decreasing.
To be fair, I knew in advance this was going to be Rebecca-centric so I had no intention of liking the episode, but I wanted to end up surprisingly entertained. Instead, we were treated to horrendous scenes of Rebecca being even more unlikeable than ever. Inappropriate jokes at inappropriate times, one minute crying at her friend’s death and the other minute laughing, blabbing about things that aren’t her business…this is just a short list of the things that make her one of the worst characters I’ve seen on television (move over, Charlotte Grayson).
I don’t have a problem with characters who do unlikeable things if they’re at least interesting (see Annalise Keating), but Rebecca has shown us that there’s nothing remotely entertaining about her and I say it’s time she leaves the show (kill her, Sam, come on!). She’s seriously bringing down the quality of Murder.
I can’t say I find the Lila murder case or how involved Sam is in it interesting either. Surprisingly, the cases-of-the-week was the one thing I was warming up to and we didn’t have that this week. And after a very disturbing montage of different people having sex while an autopsy takes place (major WTF moment, by the way), the cliffhanger proved absolutely pointless. Are we going to have a Sam-related cliffhanger in every episode? Very disappointing.
Annalise and Nate meeting in the car was just as disappointing. It felt extremely repetitive as it added zero material to the story. I did enjoy anytime someone hated on Rebecca such as Annalise’s scowling at her in the beginning or even Laurel’s “Oh my god, I hate her”, who is definitely growing on me. I thoroughly enjoyed her this time around, so this must’ve been a terrible episode.
Sneaky Courtroom Bits
– I’m very convinced it’s not Rebecca who murders Sam, even with her confession to Wes. This is definitely a red herring, and I guess that’s something to look forward to in this show.
– They missed a six-week pregnancy in the first autopsy? Seriously?
– Sam calling Annalise “Annie” was kinda creepy and sweet.
– One thing I notice about this show is that the dialogue is so fast. There’s always someone talking and not a second of silence. Another thing I notice is that most of this talk is pretty meaningless.
– Michaela thinking she was on a job interview but realizing it’s actually a meeting to discuss the pre-nup her fiancé’s is asking for was EPIC. I think I cheered at that scene.
Amusing Keating One-Liners
Annalise: You slut, white-trash killer. You made Griffin strangle that girl on the roof. You liked watching her die because that’s the piece of garbage you are. That’s what everyone in the world is going to say about you. You don’t care, neither do I. I’m not the one that’s going to be beaten, raped and violated in jail. That’s on you.
Annalise: Speak of the devil and she shall appear.
Rebecca: He wanted to kill me. I had no other choice. I had to kill him or he was going to kill me. I saw the trophy sitting there. I hit him in the head. He deserved to die. And I’m glad he’s dead
Asher: What do you have, some kind of voodoo penis?
Nate: I know you didn’t kill Lila Stangard. We both know who did. Help me catch him.
Conclusion
A terrible episode, from beginning till end. I really wanted to love this show, but it’s disappointing in every aspect. Get Viola Davis out of there!
