Let’s Talk About Movies – Ocean’s 8

Call it a sequel or a reboot, it doesn’t really matter here. What truly matters is that Ocean’s 8 defines summer escapism: it’s light, it’s fun, and it features an array of talented actresses who steal the show.

In fact, it’s all these women who make the movie enjoyable enough. The interaction among Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter and the rest of the cast offers a fun take on a familiar story, even if it feels uneven at times.

Plot-wise, there isn’t truly much to say: Debbie Ocean (Danny’s sister from Ocean’s 11), fresh out of a prison sentence, puts together a team of crooks to pull off a legendary heist. If you’ve seen the Ocean films before, then you probably know the drill. There isn’t anything revolutionary here, but you don’t walk in to see a sequel expecting something truly original. With that aside, the movie is constantly entertaining and never dull.

Conclusion

If I had to sum it up in two words, I would call Ocean’s 8 “light entertainment” and leave it at that. Compared to other sequels and reboots, at least I can say that this one was memorable enough for me to recommend.
