The Good Fight TV Review

The Good Fight – The One Where Kurt Saves Diane (Season 3 Episode 8)

"One thing I've learned in all my years doing this the court case is rarely about the client."

So is that it? Kurt saved Diane and all is well in the world? With only a few episodes left to the season, I seriously doubt Diane will escape unscathed from all the election-rigging drama, and that just fills me with a whole lot of foreboding.

Can I just say that Sheryl is infinitely more entertaining than her boss Neil Gross? I would be more than happy to see her make return appearances on the show instead of Chumhum’s CEO. The whole “lawyer by committee” shtick (not to mention Felix Staples’ return appearance) added an entertaining element to the proceedings. This hour also features the return of Alan Alda as Solomon – a character I absolutely love. Pairing him with Marissa is the stuff that spinoff dreams are made of. The Airpod adventures anyone?

Even the censorship element concerning Chumhum’s dealings with the Chinese is elevated to hilarious heights as this week’s short is “censored by CBS”. It’s these kinds of bouts of creativity that I find staggering on The Good Fight. Need more proof? Look no further than the show actually showing us everybody in their underwear just as Lucca imagines them. Wow!

The show contineus to handle Lucca and Gary’s romance beautifully. Whether Lucca is puking in the bathroom and giving herself an epic (and super meta) pep-talk, or trying to show her “good side” in court, it’s all delightful to watch. Why do I have a feeling Colin will be returning soon and sending Lucca’s life into disarray?

Bits & Cases

  • Best moment of all time: Lucca telling Gary that they “rarely have partners bursting in” and then Adrian doing exactly that down to the hand-pointing gesture. I died.
  • This week in judges: Pamela Farley who once made an appearance on The Good Wife. Jane Curtin is terrific in the role, particularly when she’s shushing Leather and Lace and their “mhmmmms”.
  • Super sweet moment: Kurt pledging to help Diane no matter the politics.
  • Very awkward scene: Liz and Adrian telling Sheryl about their metoo problem. Uh oh.
  • I love that NSA Steven wants to protect Diane and that’s what puts him in Kurt’s crosshairs.
  • Bittles not Skittles. Ha!
  • The episode’s final shot is really heartwarming with Diane finding comfort in Kurt and hugging him. Can you say awww?

Good Lines

Marissa: You should really have a passcode on this.
Solomon: It’s my small rebellion against modern life. So, what do you want to know?
Marissa: You’re taking all the fun out of investigating.

Lucca: You’re not some idiot actor. You’re Lucca Quinn. You’re fuckin’ Clarence Darrow. “As long as the world shall last, there will be wrongs. And if no man objected and no man rebelled, those wrongs would last forever. ” There you go. Impervious. Omnipotent. Ready to kill. This is not pretend. This is real.

Felix: (to Diane) I’ve always wanted your laugh as a ringtone.
