I’ve been hearing A LOT about Fleabag over the course of the past few weeks. People have been proclaiming the two-season show (6 episodes each) to be the best thing ever made. Is it? Well, judging from season one… it’s pretty darn addictive.
The story of a “sexually voracious” young woman living in London, Fleabag is especially amusing because its writer (and star) Phoebe Waller-Bridge frequently breaks the fourth wall and talks to the camera (a la House of Cards). Bridge is just so mesmerizing in the role – her charisma is through the roof, and she keeps you engaged with her magnetic persona right until the very end. Fleabag pulls no punches – it’s raw exploration of one woman’s sexuality and it’s completely unapologetic about what it is. How refreshing!
The rest of the cast is also stellar. Fleabag’s relationship with her sister (played to perfection by Sian Cliffor) is magnificent. Their dynamic is extremely layered and it imbues the show with a really rich relationship that’s both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Also a standout? Olivia Colman as Fleabag’s sinister godmother. Every one of her barbed compliments cut like a knife, and she steals every one of her scenes with her sharp-tongued ruthlessness.
Oh, and the finale packs a wallop with a heck of a revelation. Bring on season two!

A brilliantly written creation that’s spectacularly formed and shockingly moving. A must watch!
