I’m not usually one to watch Canadian productions per se, but the opportunity to watch Rachel Nichols on my TV screen again on a weekly basis (coupled with an intriguing sci-fi premise no less) seemed like a good time if any to give it a shot.
Ever since she joined the cast of Alias in its final season, I’ve found Nichols to be an intriguing talent. She might not be typically beautiful or exceptionally charismatic, but she possesses a unique vibe that I find very alluring. I’m glad to say she’s still an interesting choice for a TV lead and this pilot was a pretty good attempt at creating a whole new world from the ground up (and the production values were nowhere as cheap as I was expecting them to be).
I think what I enjoyed most about the hour is that it really didn’t waste any time getting on with the story. In fact, it might have done the show good to have spent more time with Keira in 2077 before the time-jump just so we could have identified with her a bit more. As for the rest of the cast, the Libra8 seem like interesting enough villains with a welcome dose of brutality to ratchet up the intensity. Carlos played by Victor Webster also looks like an intriguing addition to the cast although I wonder how they’re going to straddle the whole sexual tension line with Keira being very much married in 2077.
Interestingly enough, I wasn’t enjoying the character of Alec at all until the reveal that he was responsible for Keira’s technology and the tech empire he will eventually run. It turned a cliche-tech geek character into something much more foreboding. The excellent ending further built on that notion with Keira meeting Future-Alec for the first time as he’s revealed as the sinister grinning-man from the Libra8 escape.
All in all, Continuum‘s pilot was an interesting enough hour and I’m intrigued to see where it all goes. Not bad at all.

I had no idea this existed. Strange for her to show up on some obscure Canadian sci-fi show, but I guess her career hasn't turned out too great. Which itself is strange, since she did at one point have a ton of buzz around her.
first time hearing about this show.
I had hoped Continuum would be more sci-fi than cop drama- won't miss it if it is canceled and with so many promising sci-fi shows already axed, I wouldn't bet against it.
