Finally! This was the first truly great Revenge episode of the season and I couldn’t be more pleased. I was starting to lose my passion for the show but this hour singlehandedly proved me wrong by weaving together a splendid web of intrigue around several moving developments.
The teaser alone was stronger than the previous four episodes combined as Kara Clarke walked back into Victoria’s life and gave her a big hug while the latter contemplated stabbing her with pruning shears. Madeline Stowe played the scene beautifully and I look forward to seeing her interact with Jennifer Jason Leigh on a more permanent basis.
Emily VanCamp also got to display some of her best work yet as she dealt with her mother’s suspicious yet moving cries for forgiveness, as well as Amanda’s overall predicament. Emily knocked it out of the park as she was finally given something to do besides pout and reflect pensively. Here’s hoping she starts kicking ass and taking names (or rather striking names off her list again) soon.
Vengeful Bits
– Epic first meeting between Emily and Kara (who doesn’t know she’s her daughter) culminating with Mason Treadwell’s arrival.
– It was heartbreaking to watch Kara plead for forgiveness as Emily cried outside the bedroom.
– Loved Amanda and Emily finally apologizing for all of their double crosses and lies.
– Brilliant decision to reuse Angus & Julia Stone’s music from the pilot as Emily found herself on the beach yet again. Stunning.
– Excellent ending with Mason telling FauxAmanda that he knows she’s faking the identity.
Devious Delights
Kara: Such a beautiful home. So smart to build it right on the ocean; you can see your enemies coming.
Victoria: My enemies are becoming increasingly difficult to identify.
Nolan: (to Emily) That’s good for revenge-y stuff but sad for you.
Mason: Where have you been?
Kara: Away.
Mason: Why that’s one of my favorite places.
Mason: There may be no sadder sight than a woman attempting to rob her own house unless of course you misplaced something, like the dead woman who I hear has been sleeping in this bed. Through being dead is de rigueur around here these days.
Victoria: You should try it sometime Mason.
Conclusion
Emotional and highly captivating, this hour was a return to form for Revenge.

I agree with you; this eps is one emotional churning thing.
I almost forgot, since I enjoyed almost all the scenes, the
Declan scenes can be forgiven, for now.
They should really get rid of that bar.
So Declan can go roam the world and Jack can sail to Africa
as his original intention before his Dad died. Hahaha.
You're right Rosebud this was probably the first time I wasn't annoyed by Declan! Guess when the rest of the episode is so strong, I ignore that pest!

One more quote I liked was when Treadwell asked Victoria: “Do you gag a little when you say that? 'Honestly?'”
Yes that was a great little quote! I love their deviously sneaky dynamic!
I think the actress portraying Kara did a great job in this episode. Totally believable as a Psych patient – with language nuances, facial expressions and actions. Take it from someone who's interacted with people like that.

You're right. I wasn't sure about the actress before but after this one, she really played the psychotic unhinged figure well!
I've heard a lot of my coworkers at DISH say they've been losing their passion for this show too, but I've actually been quite happy with the way the season has been progressing so far. I just caught up with this episode earlier today on DISH Online and thought it was pretty great as well. The whole idea that I never know what's next to come is what really intrigues me with this show, and this episode was definitely no different. I can't wait to see what happens now that Mason seems to know that FauxAmanda is indeed not who she says she is. I can only imagine what's to come next. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! 🙂
I loved this one too Nadim, and I liked that scene with the shears as well, ha.
I also LOVED that scene with Kara begging for Amanda's forgiveness, with Emily outside the door. It was probably one of the greatest the scenes the show has put out. I welled up 🙁
I really liked this episode and Kara/Emily/Amanda interactions were all interesting and moving, especially the last scene.
